New Look MSN, A new reason to love Microsoft?

After 10 yrs wait,Microsoft(atlast) has decided to pull the triger on its most significant refresh of MSN Homepage. The new MSN, now in beta preview, is less customizable, but also less cluttered than iGoogle, and MSN is more streamlined and easier to use than the newly redesigned Yahoo homepage. So the new MSN isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty good as online portals go. Here’s what I like, and what I think should be improved with the new MSN.

  • Facebook And Twitter Integration:Given the popularity of Facebook and Twitter, it’s no surprise that one of the major additions to the new MSN is integration of both.Facebook integration=good!but twitter=not so good!
  • Hotmail Integration:Expected, but there are rumors that we may get the option to see more than hotmail!
  • Local News And Stuff: The new MSN has a great seciton for local news and weather, which is another obvious, yet great addition. But I’d like the option to automatically set this section based on my computer’s surrounding wireless access points, the way Google’s My Location feature does.

Despite all the probs and quibles, well I am impressed and I think after years of hating Microsoft’s online presence, and loving Google’s, I’m slowly being won over by Microsoft’s new products.Maybe not sure..but till then it is back to google!!

So you don’t like the new look and feel of MSN, the news isn’t good. It’s likely that the old interface will shortly also disappear forever. Your choices are limited:

      Live with it

Try “my.msn.com” (which I expect will also be updated to the new look and feel eventually)

Find another site to be your home page.

Personally – I actually prefer the new look. I find it cleaner and simpler. It’s all a matter of taste though.
